Giancarlo Scalia is a young Montreal man who has, amazingly, composed, performed and released a solo classical piano CD that is available for purchase at Archambault. At the young age of 15, he has already exceeded the hopes of most middle-aged Montreal musicians by accessing a public only dreamt of, and he does the privilege justice: the 14 original compositions here (only a handful among the 81 he is said to have written since the age of 10) recall moments of Chopin, whom the young musician quotes as his main influence, along with Ennio Morricone, Beethoven and Jordan Rudess. His style is romantic, lyrical, and though at times boyishly brusque, the work of a wunderkind awaiting your discovery.
