Halifax Summer Opera Festival
Giancarlo Scalia is happy to be returning to Halifax this summer as staff pianist for the 2019 Halifax Summer Opera Festival. He will be répétiteur for their new production of Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann directed by Nina Scott-Stoddart and Andrew Pelrine and led by conductor Nicholas Gilmore. The festival begins in July and performances run from August 3 to 10.

Giancarlo Scalia kicks off the month of June with a performance with young singer Julien Brody at the Festival Classica in Saint-Lambert. June also marks the beginning of the Scuola internazionale di Teatro italiano Giovanni Grasso's Sovrani workshop where Giancarlo Scalia is staff pianist working alongside John Mac Master, Esther Gonthier, Ariane Girard, Rose Naggar-Tremblay, Marco Piano, Valerio Vittorio Garaffa and Chiara Cimmino.

Rehearsals are well underway for Light Opera of Montreal's new production of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The show is directed by Buck Delaney and musically directed from the piano by Giancarlo Scalia.

Both of Giancarlo Scalia's works composed in 2018 will be premiered on May 12 in Montreal.
Fantasmi will be performed by mezzo soprano Rose Naggar-Tremblay with the composer at the piano at the Café d'art Vocal and Sinfonietta will be performed by the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jean-Pascal Hamelin at the Oscar Peterson concert hall.

Rehearsals are well underway for Opéra immédiat's new production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale. Coproduced by the Istituto di Cultura Italiano de Montreal, the opera is directed by Italian stage director and actor Valerio Vittoria Garaffa and musically directed from the piano by Giancarlo Scalia.

Giancarlo Scalia begins the New Year with the start of rehearsals of Lakeshore Light Opera's upcoming production of Gilbert & Sullivan's first collaboration Thespis.

Giancarlo Scalia will be performing at Opéra dans le Parc's benefit concert on December 3 alongside various singers and musicians.
He has also completed his new work for orchestra Sinfonietta and has begun work on a cycle for mezzo Rose Naggar-Tremblay. Both works to be premiered in concerts in May 2019.

Giancarlo Scalia will be performing an Italian opera gala for Jeunes ambassadeurs lyriques on the 19th. The concert features 24 singers from 8 countries and is a prelude to their gala with orchestra on the 21st.
Rehearsals are also well underway for l'Opéra bouffe du Québec's upcoming production of Lopez's Le Chanteur de Mexico.

He will be répétiteur for their new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni directed by Jason Davis and Nina Scott-Stoddart and led by conductor Peter Oleskevich. The festival begins in July and performances run from August 4 to 11.

Giancarlo Scalia is currently staff pianist for the Scuola internazionale di Teatro italiano Giovanni Grasso's Rossini workshop working alongside Daniele Agiman, John Mac Master, Esther Gonthier, Annamaria Popescu, Marco Piano, Valerio Vittorio Garaffa and Chiara Cimmino.
He has also begun composition of a new orchestral work to be premiered in 2019 by the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra and the conductor David Martin.
